SAT 20 JULY - WOODBRIDGE TOWN (Away)

WOODBRIDGE TOWN 4 - 3 FELIXSTOWE & WALTON UTD

Saturday 20thJuly 2019

We made the short trip up the A12 on Saturday to meet our neighbours, The Woodpeckers, at Notcutts Park in Fynn Road and witnessed a game, which at times was, shall we say, a little competitive for what was a  pre-season friendly.

Despite taking the lead on 25 minutes after Tom Debenham converted Fernando Herrera’s cross, we came away on the wrong end of a 4-3 scoreline. Had this game been a league match, it’s possible we may have been up against 10 men only. What could have been a straight red for Woodbridge on 15 minutes for a rash kick out, ended up being a yellow for either side. In hindsight, it was perhaps better that this ended up 11 against 11 as that allowed for a better workout all round for both sides. In fact, there were a few more bookings throughout the game but let’s not get bogged down in the detail of all that.

We lined up as follows:

Jack Spurling

Kyle Jopling

Miles Powell

Stuart Ainsley

Callum Bennett

Jordy Matthews

Isaac Scubich (Braintree)

Jamal Wiggins

Fernando Herrera

Tom Debenham

Armani Schaar

Subs:

Josh Collins

Pablo Chaves

Morgan Rushden

Adam Hanson

We went into the break a goal ahead but Woodbridge levelled things shortly after the restart following a one-on-one with Jack Spurling. A cross from the right, tapped in from the left, extended The Woodpeckers’ lead on the hour mark. Hanson replaced Scubich for us at half time and the remainder of the substitutes came on after an hour with Jopling, Bennett and Ainsley all coming off.

A converted drive put the home side 3-1 up with fifteen minutes remaining shortly before Debenham pulled one back from the penalty spot. There was a flurry of activity in the final couple of minutes with first Woodbridge extending their lead after something of a scrap in the box, then Debenham scoring from close range to chalk up what, hopefully, will be his first of many hat-tricks.

Meanwhile, back at The Goldstar Ground, our second string came out 2-1 winners against Trimley Red Devils.

Coming up this week we see our first team up against Ipswich U23s on Tuesday evening, The Fans Forum at the clubhouse (7.30pm for 8pm) on Thursday, U18s away at Brantham (7.30pm Kick Off) also on Thursday, our reserves away at Haughley (2.30pm Kick Off) on Saturday the 27thand our first team at home to a West Ham IX, also on Saturday 27thwith a 3pm Kick Off.
