Fixtures Summary

Felixstowe & Walton United.  Season 2019/2020. Summary of Fixtures.

At the time of writing this short article The Seasiders are very busy, involved in no less than twelve pre-season friendlies, https://www.felixstowefootball.co.uk/seniors/pre-season-fixtures allowing Watty and Danny to take a close look at a number of familiar faces, reserves, younger players and trialists.

The BetVictor Isthmian League North season proper kicks off on Saturday the 17thof August when Great Wakering Rovers visit The Goldstar Ground. It was one year ago that we met the Essex side in our first away match as a Step 4 side in, what was then, The Bostik North. Unfortunately, we came unstuck that day so this opener offers the opportunity for payback from the outset.

Immediately after the season opener against Great Wakering we make the short trip to local rivals AFC Sudbury for a Tuesday evening game. August Bank Holiday Monday sees the visit of Heybridge Swifts, now with former Assistant Manager Karl Duguid in charge and  Stuart Nethercott coming across from his role at Coggeshall last season. Ex-Colchester man Duguid and Nethercott, who has  experience at Spurs and Millwall, suggest the Swifts are very likely to be in the promotion pack once again.

August promises to be a busy month with five games in the second half of the month alone. On Saturday the 24th we meet AFC Sudbury for the second time in five days, away in The FA Cup Preliminary round having been given a bye in the extra preliminary round.

Our final game in the month of August is a trip up the A14 to Soham.

Our first league game in September is on Saturday the 14thwhen we are at home to Cambridge City (The Lilywhites) who have transferred across from The Southern League Division One Central where they finished 12thlast season. Three days later, on Tuesday evening the 17th, we visit The Seedgrowers of Coggeshall for the renewal of a rivalry that has been evident these past two seasons. Graeme Smith’s side are the early league favourites having retained almost everyone from last season and strengthening too. After hosting the league fixture with Maldon & Tiptree on the 21stSeptember, we then meet them in Essex a week later for the FA Trophy Extra Preliminary Round

In early October we travel south to Hullbridge Sports who gained promotion from Step 5 last season. Hullbridge is just off the A130, south east of Chelmsford. We also face Bury Town at home and Witham away that month.

Start making your excuses now for the Great Escape from other activities on Boxing Day. Your presence will be required at the Goldstar Ground for the visit of Basildon United. On New Year’s Day we find ourselves away at Heybridge Swifts with a 3pm kick off and return the compliments with Basildon United as they host our game in Essex on Easter Monday April 13th.

The Cambridge City fixture on the 21stMarch is likely to be played at the home of Histon FC. The Lilywhites are hoping to move to their own ground soon but, as things stand, all their fixtures will be played at Histon.

The season is wrapped up with a visit to Norfolk where we face The Magpies of Dereham Town.

All the fixtures referred to in this article and which appear on the website   https://www.felixstowefootball.co.uk/seniors/first-team/first-team-fixtures are subject to change, particularly bearing in mind progress or otherwise in the various cup competitions. Any changes to fixtures will, of course, be made known in the usual way, using all Social Media platforms.
