Jordy Matthews to leave the Seasiders

Felixstowe's longest serving player departs the Goldstar Ground

Fans favourite Jordan Matthews has decided to hang up his boots and leave the Goldstar Ground. Jordy was 14 years old when he first joined the club's youth set up and made his debut for the reserves when he was 18 years old, playing in that team for a season. He had made his first team debut when he was just 16 in a cup game against Tiptree and has since gone on to make over 300 appearances for the Seasiders.

Seasiders Manager Stuart Boardley was keen to pay tribute to the club legend. "I know this decision was one of the hardest Jordy has had to make and one that has been coming for some time. Jordy has been one of the best players this club has ever had and will be sorely missed by everyone. I am astounded by how many players have said ‘ I had no idea how good he was until I played with him’ - that is testament to how highly his peers rate and respect him. I sincerely hope that some time out of the game will make Jordy miss his football and want to pull on the F & W jersey again but for now though we say farewell. Jordy has given his whole footballing career to this club and deserves all the plaudits that will no doubt come his way. I’m sure he will be around at our games throughout the season with  him and his family always remaining welcome at the Goldstar."

Jordy said. "After many happy years of playing for Felixstowe and Walton FC I have made the hard decision to leave. With a growing family I am struggling to find the time and commitment the club deserves. I want to thank all the players that I have shared the football pitch with, the managers, the coaches and support staff for their endless hours of support, and most importantly I would like to say thank you to the fans."

Everyone at Felixstowe & Walton United wishes Jordy and his family all the best for the future and we thank him for his incredible loyalty, commitment and effort over many years. The place will not feel the same without you!
