Under 14 Girls Match Stories 2016/17

8th January 2017

Stowupland Falcons - Home
Team : Gabby, Amy, Katie, Caitlin, Charlotte, Poppy, Emily, Maisie J, Eloise, Abi, Hannah

Happy New Year to you all.
Stowupland Falcons were the first visitors to the Goldstar Ground in 2017.
Tam decided to change tactics and set the team up differently for this one and how it payed off. Four at the back may have looked like a more defensive move, but it gave the girls a solid platform to play from. Any Stowupland attacks were snuffed out by Katie, Hannah, Maisie and Emily. This gave Amy, Charlotte and Eloise the freedom to collect the ball off the back four, play up to Caitlin and break forward at pace.

This pushed the Falcons back on numerous occasions and limited their opportunities to play as well as we know they can.  Gabby, as always was outstanding when called upon, but the way the girls were set up took the pressure off her and gave her a little more protection.

The only thing missing again was that change of fortune in front of goal. Lady luck just doesn’t seem to be on their side this year and it seems like nothing they do will put that ball in the back of the oppositions net. Caitlin, Charlotte and Eloise had opportunities to put the girls in the lead, but once again, a bobble, a last ditch save on the line or the slightest touch to knock a player off balance when about to shoot seem to be the story of the girls season so far !
Every girl played well today  -  they seemed to have their confidence back. When substitutions were made, Abi and Poppy kept the work-rate and intensity of play the same as the Seasidettes gave the Falcons no opportunity to rest.

The Falcons may have got the win in the end but their managers were full of praise for the Seasidettes attitude and the way they played today.
What a match this was ! One of the most entertaining and hard fought games we (and I hope those who were watching agree) have seen the girls play.  Their positive approach had Stowupland Falcons on the back foot for large parts of this match. They might not have got the result, but this was the best the Seasidettes have played this season. At times they out-played and out-fought one of the best teams in this league. Take belief from this game girls…….you can compete at this level. You will get a bit of luck soon and get that win you deserve.

East Bergholt - Home
Team : Gabby, Amy, Katie, Caitlin, Mia, Tegan, Emily , Maizie V, Eloise, Abi, Hannah, Romana
East Bergholt were today’s visitors to the Goldstar Ground. The Seasidettes have always played well in previous encounters with matches being both entertaining and strongly contested. We all hoped today would be the game that the girls fortunes changed and they could get something from this match.

Once again the Seasidettes matched the opposition from the start and played some attractive passing football, but yet again luck was against them as Bergholt took the lead. With the results they have suffered this year, it would have been easy for heads to drop, but no, the girls rallied and tried to even the scores. Sadly for them, Bergholt got another before the half ended.
The second half was played in much the same way, the Seasidettes giving it everything they could, chasing through balls, making tackles and creating a few scoring opportunities, but again it was just not going to be their day.  They can take heart from the fact that this time they did get some reward in a spell were they where they pushed Bergholt back into their own half and totally dominated. Two very well taken goals, the first from Romana and a second from Caitlin, were scored in this period as they completely out-played the opposition.  That was the Seasidettes team we know we have when confidence is high -  so keep it up girls, you can do it.
Despite the defeat, the girls mood should remained positive. The spell in which the scored two goals with no reply proves they can compete at this level and that they just need to believe in themselves.
Well done girls  -  Keep believing and stay positive.
Player of the Match : Gabby
Goals : Romana x 1, Caitlin x 1

23/10/16  (H) Bury Town

Team : Gabby, Abi, Amy, Charlotte, Katie, Maizie V, Maisie J, Poppy, Caitlin, Hannah, Emily

Bury Town were todays visitors to the Goldstar. Early pressure from the Seasidettes saw them force two early corners. On both occasions Bury somehow managed to scramble the ball off the line and keep the score line level.  Sadly this seems to sum up their season so far !  If those efforts had gone in who knows how the match would have played out.  Again the girls battled hard and fought for every ball throughout but Bury proved to be too strong in the end. The work rate of every Seasidette was incredible today, they gave it everything, chasing every ball, pressurising Bury players and tackling hard . Once again the result doesn’t reflect the effort this group of girls put into this (and every other) match. They have every right to feel disappointed, but as they were told at the end, everyone is proud of the effort they put in and they are developing into better footballers. Playing up a year is tough but they don’t make it easy for any team they play.

Player of the Match Hannah

16/10/16  (H)  AFC Kesgrave

Team : Katie, Caitlin, Amy, Charlotte, Mia, Tegan, Emily, Maizie V, Eloise, Abi. Hannah, Poppy

AFC Kesgrave were the visitors to the Goldstar Ground today. Previous encounters have always been hard fought, competitive and enjoyable to watch.  The game was a fairly even affair to begin with and the Seasidettes were playing some good passing football. They certainly gave the opposing managers something to think about as frequent substitutions were made to try and force a break-through.  Unfortunately good fortune was not with the Seasidettes yet again as AFC managed to score a couple of goals.  With 10 minutes or so remaining, the team managers for the day decided to go for broke and changed to a very attacking line up with two at the back., sadly it didn’t come off and two late goals gave AFC a bigger margin of victory than the girls deserved.

The club has a U14 girls team to be proud of, even when up against it they still play with a positive attitude and keep fighting to the end.  Well done girls.  Keep believing in yourselves, remain positive and your fortunes will change.

Player(s) of the Match : Amy & Katie (who both played in goal and defence today)

Firstly, my apologies to the team (and parents) that there have been no reports so far !
The club (and Managers) must have be pleased to see all the girls from last year’s squad (plus some new additions) signed up to play another season.  Once again the team are playing a year up so another challenging season is expected. The experience they got from last season, plus their own team spirit will no doubt see them do well again this year.   Anyway  -  here’s how the season has started.
First up was an away match against Stowupland Falcons who we know to be one (if not the) the strongest team in the division. The girls competed well at times but Falcons’ experience came through and gave them a margin of victory that was maybe more harsh on the girls than the way they played deserved. That one out the way, the team then had a home game against Witnesham Wasps. Unfortunately I was not able to attend this match, but I’m told the girls played really well and deserved more than a goalless draw. A strong penalty shout and some robust defending from the away side denied the Seasidettes their first victory of the season apparently.
The cup then beckoned with a match at home to Ipswich Valley Rangers.  The girls unfortunately found themselves a couple of goals down early on  -  a case of two shots two goals for the away side.  The Seasidettes then started to find their confidence and dominated the game for a while but unfortunately were unable to turn that dominance and the chances created into goals. IVR rallied in the second half and managed to convert the chances they made meaning they ran out worthy winners in the end. All credit to the Seasidettes, they kept try to play their football and did get a goal for their efforts  -  a good move resulted in Caitlin producing a great finish for the Seasidettes first goal of the season.
Keep your heads up girls, continue to put the effort in and results will come, but most importantly, ENJOY YOUR FOOTBALL.
