Thurlow Nunn League - Premier Division

Saturday 28th February 2015

There is always an air of expectation when the Seasiders take the field, home or away, no matter who the opposition may be, sometimes the expectation is tinged with trepidation and this was one of those occasions. The Greens soundly beat the Seasiders at the beginning of December 6-2 in a league fixture and on the day it could quite easily have been more, which more than cancelled out the 3-2 win at King George V the Seasiders had enjoyed in the Thurlow Nunn League Cup 1st Round.

I often used to see the headline 'This game had everything' well that could pretty well be used to describe this encounter. If we were talking about the weather then we had sun very fleetingly, rain at times persistently, wind occasionally strong, snow at times heavy and cold in abundance.

Football wise we had, good passages of passing football, other passages of route one football, full blooded tackles but most of all we had 'Goals'. Both sides in front twice, both sides behind twice and most importantly The Seasiders ahead when the referee blew the final whistle.

Thurlow Nunn League - Premier Division

Trips to Humber Doucy Lane these days brings back the memory of Tommy Childs breaking his leg whilst playing there for the Seasiders reserves in a midweek game a few years ago and the ambulance arriving to take him to hospital with the driver asking for directions to Heath Road hospital from Wanderers ground. This week it was a particularly poignant trip with the recent passing of Wanderers Stalwart Roger Wasahlo who had been with the club from shortly after its inception in the late 80's, Roger was a one off and there was an excellent tribute to him in the match day programme.
